For the past three weeks I have been taking a course on the citation manager Zotero. Though I can’t cover all of its features in a single blog post–or even a series of posts, I can at least highlight the basics.
Zotero is a Firefox add-on: in other words it only works with the Firefox browser. That said the download is relatively straightforward.
Once you download Zotero, you can develop a library of books, articles, websites, and more. You can organize these items into collections geared toward your project(s). Then you can create bibliographies in a variety of formats.
Eventually I would like to offer a series of Zotero workshops. In the meantime please feel free to ask me (Maureen Perry) about the basics. I also recommend Zotero’s own tutorials.
Of course Zotero is simply a tool. Try it, though, and you may find it a useful tool for your scholarship.
