The information cycle in action

Last weekend (April 29-May 1) opened with one historic event, the Royal wedding, and ended with another, the death of Osama bin Laden.  Though very different from each other these two events illustrate the cycle of information.

Each event had immediate coverage on television and online.  Then newspapers started covering the events in the days that followed.  Now we are seeing articles on each event in popular magazines.  Once enough time has passed for analysis and reflection, scholars will begin to write articles and books.

The  University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign libraries have produced this video on the subject.  The video uses Hurricane Katrina as an example.   Again we are seeing it in action through the events  of last weekend.
