Over the past several weeks I have taken part in the Marvelous Maine Invitational. Marvel, for those of you unfamiliar with it, is Maine’s collection of online library resources. Each week’s training focused on a different resource or type of resource. You can read about each lesson on my blog Bridges, but I want to focus on the larger issue here.
The training connected me with librarians from varied settings (K-12 schooling, public libraries, etc.), but we participants shared the goal of connecting our patrons with the best resources for their specific needs. By looking at a variety of resource types (academic, workplace, health, financial, etc.) we could address a variety of needs. Though academic libraries focus on academic resources, they need not ignore the whole patron.
I’ll close with a holistic Holiday greeting to you and yours: May the season be physically safe, mentally relaxing, and spiritually/emotionally joyous! Stay tuned for more posts next semester.
