This workshop will highlight ways that community-based service learning can increase student motivation and engagement by providing experiential opportunities to learn in real world contexts. The workshop will focus on the benefits of partnering with communities and strategies for facilitating service learning in face-to-face, blended or online courses. CTEL has assembled a panel of three faculty members to showcase their courses that incorporate a service learning project: Dennis Gilbert will discuss the capstone project in CMS 450; Ivan Most will discuss the service learning project in ENG 304 (blended); and Tracy Michaud-Stutzman will discuss the service learning project in ANT241/TAH241. Each faculty member will have about 20 minutes to present, which will be followed by a 10 minute Q&A.
The event will be held on 10/28 from 10am-11:30am in Abromson 110.
