Hello USM Faculty,
We have some great upcoming CTEL workshops planned for you in April (read below). We hope you can attend!
Open Educational Resources (OER) Workshop
An astonishing array of Open Educational Resources (OER) becomes available for teaching, learning, and research everyday. OER are largely electronic resources and can include textbooks, course readings, simulations, games, learning objects, and quizzes, available for little or no cost. In fact, sources of OER are so numerous it can be a challenge to locate useful and relevant resources.
In this workshop we will provide an overview of the sharing networks and copyright considerations surrounding the use of OER, examine some trusted sources for OER and open textbook initiatives, and finally consider the impact of OER on teaching and learning in higher education. The workshop will be facilitated by CTEL Learning Designers Pieter Tryzelaar, Rucha Modak and Damien Michaud. As well as Bill Grubb, Coordinator of Reference and Instructional Services for the USM Libraries.
Tuesday, 4/12/2016 | 2:00-3:00 pm | Room 303, Luther-Bonney Hall | USM Portland Campus
Blackboard Template Workshop
Are you teaching online this summer and wondering where to begin? Have you never developed a course in Blackboard, or are you simply looking for inspiration? If so, join us for the CTEL Blackboard Template Workshop. We will present a Blackboard template course and walk you through the basics of setting up your own content. In the end, we can make you a copy so you can get a head-start – the template has placeholders and embedded explanations, which will answer your questions about effective design and online teaching too.
The workshop will be facilitated by CTEL Learning Designers Pieter Tryzelaar, Rucha Modak and Damien Michaud.
Wednesday, 4/20/2016 | 1:00-2:30 pm | Room 200, Payson-Smith Hall | USM Portland Campus
